Set out. Leave behind. Begin anew.
Sometimes thinking longer doesn’t help. Setting off does.
The name comes from an old story.
Two children in the forest. They lose their way – and find it again.
Today, that no longer happens in the forest. It happens in our heads.
gretyl is a place for exactly these moments.
Not to solve everything. But to set off.

The paths let you experience it.
Real routes in the Black Forest – told not as a hiking map, but as a story.

Every path needs a place where it begins and where you return. Our two houses in the Black Forest are starting point, retreat and campfire all at once.

The stones make it real.
Found on our paths, subtly marked and left where someone is meant to find them.
Gretyl StonesPaths that set something in motion
Here it begins
You’ve made your decision. You don’t yet know what lies ahead.
- Here it begins. You’ve made your decision. You don’t yet know what lies ahead.
- Here it feels easy. The path is new. You’re full of energy. Maybe you think: this will be easy.
- Here it gets steeper. The first resistance. The path asks more of you than you expected.
- Here it gets hard. Your legs grow tired. Your mind grows louder. You realise: this is more than just a path.
- Here you want to turn back. Maybe it would be easier to go back. Nobody would blame you.
- Here you ask yourself: why, actually? The moment when the original goal suddenly no longer seems so important.
- Here it goes quiet. You stop fighting. You simply keep going. Step by step.
- Here you see more clearly. With the effort, some things fall away. Thoughts become simpler.
- Here insights come to you. Some of what you were looking for isn’t found at a desk – but on the way.
- Here it gets easier again. The path stays the same. But you are no longer the same.
- Here you see how far you’ve come. Maybe the summit wasn’t the most important thing after all.
- Here you return to life. You take something with you. An insight. A trail. A stone in your pocket.
Example: this is what a Gretyl path could look like as an emotional topography. Photo: Melina Kiefer / Unsplash
Every path has places where something happens.
A climb that challenges you. A bend that suddenly changes the view. A moment when you slow down – and find yourself thinking about something else entirely.
We map these places. As an emotional topography.
Because change often begins where the familiar is no longer enough and we dare to take a small step out of our comfort zone. Challenge creates attention, movement and sometimes a new perspective.
That’s why our paths offer not only metres of altitude and waypoints, but also places for doubting, turning back, marvelling, gaining clarity and recognising. And that’s why a surprising number of design thinking sessions and strategy workshops fail, holding out in front of flipcharts covered in far too many sticky notes.
The path won’t automatically change your life.
But sometimes it changes the way you look at it.
